Definitely Not Vegan!
Nowadays many people have become vegan or vegetarian, but for someone like me, I could never give up meat. That is why I am here to talk about another option, being a carnitarian.
A carnitarian is when you don’t eat fish or seafood and it turns out it’s very good for your health. This is also a good alternative for someone who wants to play their part in helping the environment. Being a carnitarian is a good option, not only for the environment but also your health.
Nowadays there is so much plastic in the ocean. Plastic can’t fully decompose but it does break down into tiny micro plastic pieces. These micro pieces are then eaten by plankton and small fish. The small fish are then eaten by bigger fish and then caught and eaten by us. Yes, that means that we could be eating PLASTIC.
Plastic is Killing our Fish
Not all fish contain plastic but one source says that one in every four fish could contain plastic. Not only is this a problem for us, but also the wildlife eating the fish. And, talking about endangering wildlife and their food, another big issue is over-fishing.
This is when big boats with massive nets – also known as trawlers – catch huge amounts of fish. This makes it harder for the animals who eat fish to find food. Not to mention that in some places it is illegal!
Dragging the nets along the sea floor can destroy coral reefs and catch unwanted and possibly endangered sea animals like turtles and sharks. We need to change our ways and stop destroying our planet before it is to late.
You Can Help!
So next time if you are at the beach and see plastic, just pick it up and throw it in the bin. Or next time you are at the shop and want to buy meat, get the free range one instead.
Because it is the little things that we all do together that make a huge difference.
